Client was set up by a co-defendant and the police to pick up 24 stolen laptops from a Wal Greens in Marion County. Officers were waiting undercover and planned to “surprise” the Defendant after she entered her vehicle. This caused the client to become frightened and she fled from unmarked patrol cars. During the chase, the co-defendant tossed fake drivers licenses with the client’s picture out and were collected by police. Attorney Matt Thompson, through depositions and litigation was able to show that officers did not act according to the warrant by picking up the client immediately upon sight. The charge of Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement, which carries a mandatory felony conviction, was dismissed by the State and the client was offered probation and no felony conviction.
